About The Position

The Reliability and System Safety Engineer will support various projects located in Houston, TX. The Reliability and System Safety Engineer will provide hands-on technical support to Bastion Technologies Commercial Programs and projects, reporting to the Quality Manager. This role is an individual contributor position focused on executing reliability, maintainability, and system safety analyses and producing high-quality, technically defensible deliverables in support of customer programs.

  • This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status due to the sensitivity of customer related information.
  • Must have a bachelor's degree in the field of engineering.
  • Must have 7+ years of recent and related work experience.
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and TEAMS.

  • Able to follow company programs, processes, procedures, practices, requirements, goals, and objectives.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience in at least one additional Safety and Mission Assurance discipline, such as industrial safety or quality, is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems, with practical experience supporting engineering activities in underwater or harsh environment programs preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and work effectively within a cross functional engineering team.
  • Self-directed and capable of independently executing assigned tasks with minimal oversight in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact regularly with customer technical staff and internal engineering teams.
  • Practical experience using common engineering and analysis tools such as MATLAB, Python, or Relyence in support of reliability or system safety activities.

Responsibilities

  • Execute reliability and system safety analyses in direct support of Bastion Commercial Programs and projects, including reliability modeling, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Critical Items Lists (CIL), Fault Tree Analysis, test planning support, In Service RAMS, and applicable program ground rules.
  • Develop, update, and maintain reliability and system safety artifacts for underwater habitats and associated submersibles, dive systems, and scientific research equipment.
  • Review engineering designs and technical documentation to verify that reliability, maintainability, and system safety requirements are correctly interpreted, implemented, and traceable to program requirements.
  • Apply established tools, methods, and standards to identify, analyze, and document reliability and system safety risks across the program lifecycle.
  • Participate directly in anomaly, problem, and failure investigations, performing root cause analysis and supporting the definition and verification of corrective actions.
  • Support design, manufacturing, inspection, and test activities by preparing and reviewing technical documentation and analysis outputs related to reliability and system safety.
  • Perform systematic hazard identification considering system hardware, software, interfaces, operational use, and environmental conditions.
  • Assess and document hazard risk severity and probability across all system modes using defined program criteria.
  • Document risk mitigation measures and expected risk reduction within the program Hazard Tracking System and support closure of hazards through verification evidence.
  • Other duties as assigned.
