About The Position

Employee will perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled duties and learn by performing and/or assisting others in the performance of duties of a more skilled nature in relation to the construction, installation, inspection, operation and maintenance of Company gas measurement and regulation facilities and associated equipment, and large commercial and industrial metering and regulating facilities. #LG&EKU #INDLGE

Requirements

Employee must meet all general qualifications of employment.
Employee must meet all qualifications as required by Federal, State and Municipal regulations as applies to this position.
Employee must be able to speak, understand, read and write English, and be able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Employee must have education or knowledge equivalent to that normally represented by satisfactory completion of the requirements of a high school diploma, or equivalent.
Employee must be able to learn to use the tools and equipment required in the work.
Employee must be willing to become familiar with the Company Safety Rules and willingly comply with such rules.
Employee must have or be able to obtain the appropriate certifications and licenses as required by state and federal authorities as required to safely operate company vehicles, including those with a manual transmission.
Employee must be willing to work inside and outside under varying weather conditions.
Employee must be willing to report as directed to any facility for any shift where needed.
Employee must be in good health and be able to perform the physical requirements of the job, which include heavy manual labor.
Employee must possess the willingness and ability to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to advance to higher classifications.
Employee must be willing and able to communicate through verbal and written reports.
Employee must be able to learn to make and read simple drawings and sketches.
Employee must be willing to carry though work assignments and must be willing to conduct himself/herself in a manner that encourages cooperation satisfactory work from others assigned to work with him/her.
Employee must successfully complete such entry level testing programs as are promulgated by Louisville Gas & Electric to measure job responsive aptitude, ability to retain knowledge and problem solving skills.
Employee must be able to perform simple arithmetic functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) encountered on the job.
Employee must be able to read and understand street maps and have general knowledge of streets in service area.

Responsibilities

Employee will be knowledgeable of and follow all safety rules, corporate policies, procedures and practices.
Employee will, when directed by supervision, report to assigned locations both internal and external for the purpose of receiving training and will actively participate in the training activities.
Employee will carry out assignments in training for and/or performing fire fighting and first aid.
Employee will exhibit an adequate competency level pertaining to activities delineated in the Duties and Qualifications sections of this job classification. Employee will demonstrate such competency via performance of job duties and training and testing programs administered at intervals prescribed by Louisville Gas & Electric to assure correct classification of employees.
Employee will, during the normal performance of his/her duties, watch for and promptly report to supervision any damaged or defective equipment or conditions which may cause damage or injury.
Employee will perform duties of lower and higher classifications that are incidental to the job and are within his/her capabilities including those needed for the purpose of training in the requirements of the higher classifications.
Employee will keep all equipment, tools, materials and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
Employee will report to any facility for any shift where needed as directed by supervision
Employee will perform work in a responsible and cooperative manner to facilitate a positive working environment.
Employee will compile information and generate reports, forms and documents as required.
Employee will represent the Company to the community with the attention to the highest standard of conduct, appearance and attitude.
Employee will communicate by radio, telephone, or electronic communication to supervision on a regular basis.
Employee will perform manual labor duties that include, but are not limited to, digging, backfilling, loading and unloading supplies, tools, materials and equipment.
Employee will perform the various maintenance duties such as, but are not limited to, cleaning, painting, and lubricating of various valves, piping and equipment.
Employee will locate and clean out valve boxes.
Employee must learn and obtain a full understanding of lockout/tagout procedures.
Employee must learn and become knowledgeable of applicable government and Company rules, regulations and practices related to the installation of gas piping and operation of metering and regulating stations.
Employee will assist in the installation, operation, maintenance and inspection of gas metering and regulation stations, regulator pits, regulator assemblies, relief valves, remote inlet/outlet valves, and associated equipment.
Employee will assist in operating the transmission and high-pressure gas system including main line valves.
Employee will assist in the shut down and purging of transmission and high-pressure mains necessary for tie-ins, extensions and/or replacement work.
Employee will assist in the investigation and assist in the correction of malfunctions related to gas measurements and regulator stations, pits, assemblies, and associated equipment.
Employee will assist in the inspection and testing of large commercial and industrial customer piping for compliance with the applicable government and Company rules, regulations and practices governing the installation of gas piping.
Employee will assist in the performance of duties related to the installation, operation, testing and maintenance of meters, customer regulators and over-pressure protective devices in large commercial and industrial settings.
Employee will assist in the turning on and off of gas for large commercial and industrial customers, including purging piping systems .
Employee will ensure proper painting of various gas installations as required.
Employee will assist and calculate gas loads for customer and Company facilities.
Employee will operate company vehicles.
Employee will regularly use computers and operate computer software required to maintain equipment in the gas control areas.
Employee will successfully complete DOT Operator Qualifications required for System Regulation and Operations line of progression.
