About The Position

A System Engineer 2 is an intermediate-level, professional position responsible for the systems and infrastructure which support a set of products. The System Engineer participates in implementation of projects. The individual generally helps maintain these systems on a day-to-day basis. This role responds to escalated service requests. This role implements approved production changes and participates in incident resolution. This is a 5-year fixed-term position. This individual works with divine guidance to provide or support technology that furthers the mission of the Church and reflects the eternal impact of the gospel. The primary focus of this position will be advancing SharePoint Online storage governance and lifecycle management practices. This role will drive the implementation of modern content management controls, optimize storage utilization, and help establish scalable policies that align with organizational standards. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Two years of relevant experience
  • Strong knowledge of Unix or Windows servers
  • Working knowledge of network management principles
  • Strong knowledge of Cloud technology principles
  • Strong knowledge of DevSecOps principles
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • This job operates in a professional office environment
  • To successfully perform the essential functions of the job there may be physical requirements which need to be met such as sitting for long periods of time and using computer monitors/equipment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with SharePoint Online administration and storage management
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 compliance tools (Microsoft Purview, retention policies, eDiscovery)
  • Experience with data governance, information lifecycle management, or records management
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day execution of the SharePoint Online storage remediation program, identifying and prioritizing areas driving storage consumption
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and team members to analyze inactive sites and coordinate cleanup or archival actions with site owners
  • Develop and maintain storage usage reporting and progress tracking to support remediation milestones
  • Implement version history controls and storage optimization policies across document libraries
  • Support the evaluation and deployment of retention policies, governance improvements, and document lifecycle controls
  • Coordinate with site owners and data stewards to assess content for archival, deletion, or migration to alternative repositories
  • Help implement technical controls and automation to prevent storage re-accumulation
  • Assist with Microsoft engagement activities, including providing data and progress updates for the storage remediation effort
  • Fulfill service requests
  • Perform approved, scheduled maintenance according to a documented change plan
  • Promptly respond to and resolve incidents and monitoring alerts
  • Validate proper solution operation after changes, either to the system itself or changes made to systems upon which the system is dependent
  • Escalate incidents as necessary
  • Perform basic research to evaluate a range of product offerings and evaluate emerging trends
  • Maintain documentation and knowledge-based articles
  • Validate system backups
  • Adhere to all security guidelines and ensure all others with access are doing the same
