About The Position

The Assistant Director of Facility Services supports the System Director in overseeing plant operations and maintenance to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient performance of all facility systems, including building structures, HVAC, mechanical, electrical, utility systems, and grounds. This role also leads the Environment of Care (EOC) and Safety programs, ensuring a compliant, survey-ready environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while providing operational oversight of Clinical Engineering and Environmental Services. The position is responsible for driving performance improvement, ensuring staff competency, assisting with budget development, and maintaining efficient departmental operations in compliance with all regulatory standards, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration, DNV Healthcare, and National Fire Protection Association. Serving as a subject matter expert in EOC and Safety, the Assistant Director leads risk mitigation efforts, emergency management, and continuous compliance initiatives to support the operational integrity and long-term sustainability of facility services.

Requirements

  • Associate degree (AA) or equivalent from two (2) year college or technical school; or 5 to 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must successfully pass criminal background check.
  • Must complete and/or take all required health screenings and vaccines.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and enforce safe work practices and procedures across all Facility Services operations.
  • Maintain continuous regulatory compliance readiness to minimize deficiencies during unannounced surveys by any governing body, including DNV Healthcare, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and National Fire Protection Association.
  • Serve as Chair of the Physical Environment Safety Committee.
  • Serve as Chair of the Emergency Management Committee, leading all emergency preparedness activities, including drills, exercises, and after-action evaluations.
  • Lead organization-wide incident management and risk mitigation efforts.
  • Track, trend, and analyze safety events to identify systemic risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Conduct root cause analyses and implement corrective and preventive action plans.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of evolving codes, standards, and regulatory requirements affecting Facility Services.
  • Review and evaluate Facility Services policies and procedures; recommend updates to ensure compliance and operational effectiveness.
  • Assist Director in departmental personnel functions, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, performance evaluations, coaching, discipline, and termination.
  • Supervise Facility Services staff to ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and established standards of performance.
  • Support the development and implementation of quality and productivity standards for the department.
  • Assist in the administration and oversight of the maintenance program to ensure uninterrupted operation of the physical plant.
  • Monitor maintenance activities for effectiveness and ensure appropriate documentation.
  • Plan, schedule, and supervise maintenance, repairs, renovations, and minor construction projects.
  • Oversee installation, inspection, and servicing of mechanical, electrical, and building systems.
  • Maintain inventory of parts and supplies to ensure operational readiness while balancing cost and regulatory priorities.
  • Coordinate procurement of materials, supplies, and equipment as needed.
  • Recommend utilization of external contractors and specialty vendors when appropriate.
  • Maintain repair and replacement records in alignment with budget expectations.
  • Provide input to the System Director of Facility Services regarding projected costs, capital needs, and budget planning.
  • Identify and recommend cost-saving initiatives across the facility and system.
  • Collaborate with leadership and departments to establish priorities, develop work schedules, and assign resources.
  • Provide routine reports to the System Director of Facility Services on facility conditions, risks, and project status.
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal energy management requirements and support efficiency initiatives.
  • Coordinate all fire and life safety programs, inspections, and procedures in collaboration Director.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with life safety standards and emergency preparedness requirements.
  • Assist Director in managing Facility Services projects across the system, including planning, execution, and performance monitoring.
