About The Position

Professional work that performs and/or monitors the work of others in installing, configuring, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting servers and other computer systems. Provides support services to facilitate efficient and effective use of traditional and cloud system resources. Maintains data files and monitors the system configuration to ensure data integrity. Assists in planning for and responds to service outages and other problems. EXAMPLES OF PROFESSIONAL WORK\: Core Control Systems: Establish and remove user accounts and creates network environments. Monitor and manage system resources, including server performance, CPU usage, disk usage, tape backup systems, and response times to maintain operating efficiency. Analyze, diagnose, troubleshoot/resolve system hardware, software, networking/production issues. Conduct server builds, apply patches, release upgrades and modifications to server operating system hardware and software. Perform system backups and recovery procedures. Maintain system documentation and logs. Demonstrate pertinent experience in applicable control system(s). Create, maintain, and update programming for various DCS/PLC industrial control systems. Install, configure, and maintain control system HMI software along with associated SQL databases. Maintain, replace, or install new DCS/PLC industrial control equipment. Create and maintain a current inventory of all control system computers and associated equipment. Coordinate and work with site staff to provide DCS/PLC industrial control system interface support. Assist in engineering to install new or to modify network devices, also help assess feasibility and compatibility with the existing and emerging technologies. Review vendor invoices to ensure accuracy and appropriate use of resources. Assist in planning for re-engineering of existing systems, replacing inadequate systems, system expansion. Assist in conducting ongoing assessments of short-term and long-term hardware and software needs Programming and Database Management: Develop and update custom applications and web applications. Manage and maintain Microsoft SQL databases. Coordinate with production data warehousing to ensure reliable connectivity and accurate data collection of Control System tag data. Site Resource: Serve as a site subject matter lead and train others in installing, operating, and troubleshooting DCS/PLC and/or SCADA systems. Testing hardware and software related to enhancing, upgrading, or new installations. Configures, optimizes, fine-tunes, monitors/maintains network systems, server operating systems and system applications. Performs system administration tasks, including adding and removing users, user groups and accounts; manages authentication, authorization, and access control Assists in planning for re-engineering of existing systems, system upgrades, and expansions. Performs system backups and recovery procedures; assists in disaster recovery testing. Analyzes, diagnoses, troubleshoots and resolves system hardware, software, network and production issues. Monitors and manages hardware and software system resources, including server performance, system and capacity trending analysis, CPU usage, disk usage, backup systems, and response times to maintain operating efficiency; coordinates equipment repair and deployment. Writes or modifies basic scripts and performs light programming to resolve performance problems and automate systems administration tasks. Resolves escalated problems and identifies and recommends responses to new or unusual situations. Maintains system documentation and logs. Documents procedures, including drawings and standardized images to illustrate applications server hardware, software and network configuration and automated deployments Compiles research data and assists in testing and evaluating vendor hardware, software and other system components. Assists in conducting ongoing assessments of short-term and long-term hardware and software needs. May assist in site preparation and/or equipment removal and data mitigation tasks for new hardware and software installations and user upgrades or moves. Plans and develops procedures for operating under both normal and emergency conditions. Assists in disaster recovery testing as System Administrator subject matter expert. Participates in ongoing training to continuously upgrade technical knowledge and skills. Follows and completes work in conformance with JEA Policies and Procedures to meet compliance requirements. May reviews vendor invoices to ensure accuracy and appropriate use of resources. Performs other job-related work as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Computer Science or related discipline and two (2) years of professional experience a system administration role in a large corporate or industrial environment for the discipline and/or specialty area(s) being recruited.
  • Six (6) year combination of education, training and experience in installing, supporting, and maintaining servers network systems in a large corporate or industrial environment for the discipline and/or specialty area(s) being recruited.
  • Two (2) years of experience must be in a Windows environment.
  • Required to help maintain 24 X 7 systems availability.
  • A valid driver's license may be required depending upon assignment and if required, must be maintained during employment in this classification.
  • Depending on assignment, the certifications and licensing below must be obtained within six (6) months of employment. Failure to obtain required certifications may be cause for termination. Certifications and licensing must be maintained during employment in this job class.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of experience in large centralized industrial control and data collection systems environment preferred.
