About The Position

Ready to own the backbone of a modern, secure, and high-performance environment? Join our client as a Systems Administrator and be the go-to expert for both systems and networking. In this dynamic contract role, you’ll ensure rock-solid uptime across servers, identity, and end-user devices—while leading hands-on work with firewalls, switches, VPNs, and Wi-Fi. From Microsoft Entra ID/Azure AD and Microsoft 365 to routing, VLANs, and zero-trust controls, you’ll tune performance, harden security, and keep critical operations flowing. If you thrive on solving complex infrastructure and network challenges and want to make an immediate impact, this is your stage.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in a related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of four (4) years in IT systems administration with hands-on network operations responsibilities.
  • Knowledge Windows Server, AD, DNS/DHCP, GPOs; Microsoft Entra ID/Azure AD; Microsoft 365 ecosystem.
  • Core networking: TCP/IP, routing (static/dynamic), VLANs, ACLs, NAT, QoS, VPNs, wireless standards, and network security best practices.
  • Familiarity with firewalls (Fortinet), switches (Brocade/Extreme, Aruba, Ubiquiti), and monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Wireshark).
  • Understanding of cloud networking (Azure VNets/peering/private endpoints) and hybrid connectivity.
  • Awareness of compliance/security frameworks (e.g., CIS benchmarks, PCI, HIPAA) and zero-trust principles.
  • Proven ability to diagnose complex system and network issues with a methodical, data-driven approach.
  • Configuration and troubleshooting of firewalls, switches, VPNs, and Wi-Fi; creation of clear topology and run-books.
  • Strong documentation, change management, and cross-team communication skills.
  • Customer-centric mindset with excellent prioritization and follow-through.
  • Work independently and collaboratively in a fast-moving environment; handle multiple priorities with discipline.
  • Navigate ambiguity, design resilient architectures, and drive continuous improvement in security and performance.
  • Conduct after-hours maintenance windows and respond to incidents when needed.

Nice To Haves

  • CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, Microsoft Azure Administrator/Network Engineer Associate, Fortinet NSE.
  • ITIL v4 Foundations, security certifications (e.g., SSCP, Security+).

Responsibilities

  • Manage Windows Server environments, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, GPOs, file systems, and user provisioning.
  • Maintain hybrid identity (Microsoft Entra ID/Azure AD) and integrations with Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and Teams.
  • Monitor and optimize server performance, storage, backup (Rubrik), and virtualization (Hyper-V/VMware).
  • Serve as the Tier 3 escalation point; provide Tier 2/3 support to swiftly resolve complex operational issues.
  • Configure, maintain, and harden firewalls (e.g., Fortinet) and switching architectures (e.g., Brocade/Extreme, Aruba, Ubiquiti).
  • Design and manage LAN/WAN environments including routing , VLANs , trunking , link aggregation , and spanning tree .
  • Administer VPN (site-to-site and remote access), enforce MFA policies, and tune performance/QoS for critical applications.
  • Own wireless networks: SSIDs, security (WPA2/WPA3-Enterprise), roaming, RF tuning, capacity planning, and guest access segmentation.
  • Implement Network Access Control (NAC) , device posture checks, and zero-trust segmentation (micro-segmentation where applicable).
  • Manage core services ( DNS/DHCP/NTP ) and IP address management; document subnets, addressing plans, and inter-VLAN routing rules.
  • Monitor networks using Wireshark/SolarWinds (or similar); build proactive alerts and dashboards for availability, utilization, and anomalies.
  • Perform security monitoring and vulnerability assessments ; remediate findings and contribute to incident response and root-cause analysis.
  • Support cloud networking (Azure VNets, peering, private endpoints, VPN gateways/ExpressRoute) and hybrid connectivity patterns.
  • Coordinate with vendors/ISPs on circuits, SD-WAN policies, and maintenance; manage change windows to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain detailed network documentation (topology diagrams, standards, SOPs) and lead periodic config backups/recovery tests.
  • Configure roles, permissions, workflows, custom forms, and analytics dashboards.
  • Support integrations with Smartsheet, Salesforce/CRM, Blackbaud Raiser's Edge, and other business systems.
  • Partner with Finance & Operations to streamline data flows, ensure reporting accuracy, and automate processes.
