About The Position

The College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences is seeking a motivated System Administrator to support secure, compliant, and well-managed technology systems across the College. This position administers and maintains the College’s endpoint management platforms—Jamf, Intune, and BigFix—as well as Active Directory, identity-protection tools, and College servers, including HIPAA-related systems. The System Administrator plays a key role in system deployments, security updates, OS and application patching, server configuration and maintenance, and ensuring devices meet Virginia Tech’s Minimum Security Standards. This role collaborates closely with the CLAHS CTO and IT management and staff to test, deploy, and maintain updates, policies, and services that support a stable technology environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • Foundational knowledge or coursework related to system administration, server technologies, and endpoint management preferably in an academic or research environment.
  • Experience with Jamf, Microsoft Intune, BigFix, Active Directory / Azure AD, SQL Server administration and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation using languages such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of Titanium Schedule or similar SQL-based applications, server setup, configuration, backups, and maintenance (Windows or Linux)
  • Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 administration
  • Experience with Spirion or other identity-protection tools, understanding of enterprise system administration best practices for patching, configuration, and security.
  • Experience with automation or reporting tools such as Power Automate, Power BI, or relevant tooling.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).
  • Experience with enterprise endpoint backup systems.
  • Relevant certifications, including but not limited to Jamf 100, Jamf 200, MD-102: Microsoft Endpoint Administrator Associate, MTA Windows Server Administration Fundamentals, MTA Security Fundamentals.
