About The Position

The Switcher is responsible for loading and staging for our fleet of approximately 65 trucks. Sunday you are expected to work from 5:00pm to 2:00am and Mondays -Thursday you are expected to work from 4:00 pm to 2:00 am. Our fleet consists of Class B tandem axle reefer box trucks.   The Switcher is expected to complete pre and post trip inspections on the vehicles and report inconsistencies or potential issues to management. We are looking for a safety minded individual with a keen attention to detail ensuring all property safety items are documented and escalated as needed. The position of Switcher is not exempt from the overtime provisions of the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act and shall be entitled to overtime compensation for hours worked more than 40 in any one work week.  The Switcher shall be accountable and supervised by the Transportation Manager.

Requirements

  • Valid Commercial driver's license (CDL) with a clean record.

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • CDL A or CDL B License.

Responsibilities

  • Prepping yard for loading and unloading trucks.
  • Ensuring that the yard remains clear for traffic.
  • Pre-trip checking all vehicles prior to moving.
  • Coordinating with night operations to ensure proper equipment is staged.
  • Writing down mileage and reefer hours once per week
  • Checking temperature on reefer systems and notating any issues to management with vehicles
  • Move trucks around the yard as required by warehouse for loading process.
  • Move trucks in and out of the docks when loaded by warehouse at their direction to ensure loading process is not delayed and runs smoothly.
  • Any trucks left in the dock area at the end of the shift must be moved from the doors and put in designated parking areas.
  • Ensure reefer units are off when in the yard empty and turned on prior to loading and when idling in the yard full.
  • Basic troubleshooting of reefer issues or error codes
  • Provide Sunday weekly mileage and reefer hours sheet.
  • Prior to leaving ensure that shipping is completed from night warehouse operations
  • Ensure all trucks have proper equipment loaded on the vehicle including pallet jack and strapping.
