The Switchboard Operator is responsible for answering incoming signals on the switchboard and responding to all emergencies, including codes, fire, bomb threats, severe weather, and security incidents, in accordance with Clinic and department policies. This role involves contacting Clinic staff assigned to beepers as requested, responding to all overhead-paging requests, maintaining physician/office documentation, and communicating with the Physicians’ Answering Service to provide schedules and other pertinent information. The operator must also maintain accurate console information. Required qualifications include a high school education or equivalent, previous experience as a switchboard operator, and previous experience in a medical facility. The ideal candidate must be articulate, courteous, possess good public relations skills, including effective handling of hostile behavior, and be flexible to handle multiple assignments concurrently. Exceptional hearing/listening skills are essential, and the ability to sit for long periods in a confined area is required.
