About The Position

The Swim Team Assistant Coach plays a key role in creating a positive, safe, and motivating environment for young athletes. Working closely with the Swim Team Coach, this position supports daily practices, skill development, and meet preparation while helping swimmers grow in confidence, teamwork, and performance. If you’re passionate about swimming, youth development, and being part of a supportive coaching team, this is a rewarding seasonal opportunity.

Requirements

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Ability to swim proficiently and demonstrate competitive techniques.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with swimmers, parents, and staff.
• Ability to maintain professionalism, follow safety procedures, and respond appropriately in emergencies.
• Knowledge of competitive strokes, rules, and training techniques.
• Understanding of competitive swimming training principles.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Swim Team Coach with planning and leading daily swim practices
• Provide skill instruction and direct swimmers during practices and meets
• Support meet preparation, including equipment setup, lane assignments, and entries
• Ensure swimmer safety and readiness to respond to emergencies
• Maintain organized equipment and storage areas
• Communicate program needs, concerns, and updates to the Swim Team Coach
• Uphold Park District policies related to safety, professionalism, confidentiality, and equal opportunity
• Represent the Champaign Park District in a positive and respectful manner
