Ensures adequate safety procedures are in place for the class being taught. Communicates directions and/or corrections in a clear and concise manner. Maintains class control and discipline at all times. Instructor must be in proper attired (bathing suit) and on pool deck at least five minutes before start of class and have equipment ready and roster ready to take attendance. Instructors shall not leave the area of their class unless students in the class have left or their safety has been turned over to a department lifeguard, confirming transfer with the guard on deck. Develops lesson plans for each class of the session. It is the responsibility of each instructor to provide “practical” lesson plans for their substitutes (A substitute slip must be completed and signed for all classes missed). Evaluates stroke technique of participants. Keeps skill sheets, student progress records and attendance records up to date after each class meeting. Prepares student evaluations, with recommendations and comments for either staying in the current level, with an explanation why, or movement to the next level. Teaches group and private lessons. Maintains an uncluttered teaching area, returning all instructional equipment to the proper place. Relates with enthusiasm, patience, courtesy, tact, and concern when dealing with class members and parents. Attends and participates in all staff and instructors meetings. Other duties as required.
