Salary range: An annual salary range of $140,000 - $150,000 is what we expect to pay for this position, based on overall skills and experience. What You’ll Do: Customers Bank is seeking a highly motivated Hybrid SBA Business Development Officer (BDO) & Small Business Lender to drive responsible growth across both SBA 7(a) lending and conventional small business banking. This hybrid role is ideal for a relationship-focused professional who thrives in a dynamic environment, excels at consultative selling, and is passionate about supporting small businesses through tailored credit and deposit solutions. You will serve as a trusted advisor to entrepreneurs, owner-operators, nonprofits, and commercial borrowers, representing Customers Bank throughout your assigned market while building a high-quality portfolio of government-guaranteed and conventional loans.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of SBA 7(a) loan production experience.
  • Strong understanding of both SBA and conventional underwriting.
  • Established network of brokers and COIs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High emotional intelligence and team-oriented mindset.
  • Adaptable in a high-tech, mobile banking environment.
  • Strong business development and relationship management skills.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements for SBA and commercial lending.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new lending and deposit opportunities through cold calling, internal and external referrals, lead lists, partnerships with brokers and COIs, and joint calling with Product Partners.
  • Build and execute a targeted COI engagement plan focused on consistent referral generation and brand visibility.
  • Represent Customers Bank at community events, networking functions, and partner gatherings.
  • Act as a Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for prospects and clients.
  • Originate, structure, and package SBA 7(a) loans including owner-occupied CRE, owner-operated businesses, business acquisitions, working capital, and equipment financing.
  • Meet individual SBA production goals, including annual government-guaranteed loan and deposit targets.
  • Lead the full sales cycle for conventional lending.
  • Manage a portfolio of small business clients with focus on credit and deposit growth.
  • Deepen existing relationships through proactive calling and cross-sell opportunities.
  • Open business deposit accounts and introduce treasury management solutions.
  • Provide consultative advice on liquidity and cash management needs.
  • Maintain strong understanding of SBA and conventional underwriting.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, minimize delinquencies, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Utilize Salesforce and bank technology platforms for pipeline management, call tracking, loan package input, and reporting.
  • Provide weekly updates on pipeline, production metrics, and relationship status.
