About The Position

This position manages the commercial loan officers and functions as a senior-level commercial banking officer. This position makes and manages direct loans and will be a resource for other lenders in the organization. This position must possess the technical skills needed to underwrite, document, administer and ultimately collect midsized and large commercial loans. This position must have or develop the skills needed to effectively manage personnel, retain quality employees and recruit new talent. In addition, proficiency at business development is critical, as this position is expected to actively solicit new loan relationships within the constraints of the Bell Bank loan policy.

Requirements

  • B.A. in accounting, finance, business administration or related field.
  • Ten or more years of credit, lending or examining experience.
  • Working knowledge of loan documentation.
  • Above-average written and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with computer technology.
  • Ability to deal with multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Interview prospective midlevel and large business loan customers in an effort to make a preliminary determination as to the nature and feasibility of the credit request.
  • Assist in the analysis of financial and related data to determine the general creditworthiness of the prospect and the merits of the specific loan request.
  • Establish and negotiate, where necessary, terms under which the credit could be structured, including the costs, repayment methods and collateral requirements.
  • Assist in the preparation of the Loan Committee Presentation and required supporting documentation. This package must be prepared in accordance with the standards established in the loan policy.
  • Present to the Loan Committee for review and approval all loans in excess of the individual lending authority.
  • Provide guidance to the loan document representative and commercial lending assistant in preparation of loan documentation.
  • Monitor credit facilities once they are booked. Assess interim financial information, borrowing base reports and other supporting documentation. Assist in the collection of past due loan payments and must utilize support staff to obtain required information and to resolve file technical exceptions.
  • Administer all problem credits, implementing the goals and objectives established and agreed upon through the completion of a problem workout strategy.
  • Actively engage in business development.
  • Active involvement in community and civic affairs.
  • Lead and manage to achieve annual goals.
  • Work closely with the Commercial Banking Director on strategic initiatives.
  • Provide the Commercial Banking Director with periodic updates on the Team’s progress and activities.
  • Recruit new employees and seek out top talent in the market.
  • Act as a liaison between senior leadership and lenders on the front line.
  • Act as a coordinator and contact person for the team with respect to problem loan administration and delinquency control.
  • Work closely with lending staff to resolve and/or collect problem loans.
  • Mentor team members and develop career paths to achieve their long-term goals.
  • Conduct periodic performance reviews for team members.
  • Stay up-to-date on local market trends and the competitive landscape.
  • Approve timecards, vacation requests and expense reports for team members.
  • Serve as back-up to the Commercial Banking Director as needed.
  • Know by name and face as many customers and employees as possible, calling them by name as often as possible.

  • Conduct activities consistent with established Bell Bank policies, procedures and systems, the Bell Bank Employee Conduct policies, the Bank Secrecy Act and all applicable state and federal laws and regulations.

  • Prompt and reliable attendance.
