WHAT THIS ROLE WILL DO Responsible for ensuring maximum landfill diversion Event waste sorting Educating fans and staff in recycling recovery process Contributing to the venue sustainability culture This is an opportunity to help set industry standards in zero-waste initiatives and shape a culture of sustainability at a renowned venue.

Requirements

  • Not afraid to get dirty or be around unpleasant odors
  • Ability to work outside in variable weather
  • Strong time management skills to show up on time and work late hours
  • Dedication to participate in something that will have a real and immediate impact to the cause
  • Must be able to work well with other departments
  • Experience in events, zero waste events are a plus
  • Must possess a positive attitude
  • Creative thinker and problem solver
  • A strong sense of teamwork and ability to execute programs
  • Nighttime availability – most of our sorting happens the day after a show takes place
  • Must be able to lift or move up to 45 lbs. using proper lifting techniques

Responsibilities

  • Participate in Zero Waste Captain on-boarding training
  • Assist in the mid and post-show sorting process of all recycling, composting, and landfill materials
  • Be available to work show days and non-show days to ensure all waste is sorted and diverted.
  • Relay boots on the ground observations to guide areas of improvement and overall program development
  • Contribute ideas to improve material circularity based on most commonly seen items in the waste stream
  • Assist the Sustainability Manager with educational support to all crew members and fans
  • Maintain a clean sorting area and support the post-show pick after each event
  • Support compliance with local environmental policies and mandates
  • Be an ambassador to all Band Members to help them understand their role in achieving the venue’s sustainability goals
  • Assist in employee engagement programs such as the water bottle refill punch cards, post-show sort giveaways and new ideas
  • Engage fans and encourage them to participate in our sustainability programs through activities or education
  • Responsible for entering availability 3 weeks in advance through the ABIMM system. Employee is further responsible for communicating with the supervisor should that availability change.
  • Ensuring that time worked is accurately captured through the ABIMM system.
