The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the city. BEPA is seeking to hire summer interns with an engineering background for the Stormwater Permitting section in the Bureau of Environmental Planning and Analysis (BEPA) located in Queens, NY. Under supervision, selected candidates will be tasked to do the following: - review construction plans of post construction stormwater management practices (SMPs) - inspect sites for compliance with approved plans and in response to complaints from public - review application documents, drawings and supporting calculations - inspect construction sites including soil testing work In addition, the summer intern will develop a final presentation to display assignments they have been involved with while working as an intern at the DEP Interns Closing Ceremony.
