About The Position

The Town of Erie is currently hiring for a Sustainability Intern to join the Environmental Services department! This is a high priority role and great opportunity to be a part of increasing sustainability efforts and improve the livelihood of Erie residents. Each internship within the Town is unique, intersecting where the individual’s interests and the Town’s priorities and needs meet. This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule. Scheduling around in-office days is to be worked out with your supervisor but will require to be in-person for planned Town events. The projects the Sustainability Intern will be responsible for will include but are not limited to: This position will focus on education and outreach within the community related to recently adopted and soon to be adopted sustainability and water conservation plans. This includes the Town’s soon to be updated Sustainability Action Plan, drafted Resilience Action Plan, Beneficial Electrification Plan implementation, Water Efficiency and Drought and Water Supply Shortage Plans, and other related efforts. The intern would be working with the Sustainability Division (along with collaborating with other departments) to advance the Town’s sustainability efforts. The elected Town Council and Erie residents have continuously identified sustainability and water conservation as a high priority and have appropriated funds and resources to support the objectives. Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Masters program focused on environment and sustainability.
  • Professional work/internship experience with event planning or related event management.
  • Strong customer service understanding and experience.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • If the employee will be driving, the Town will require a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record. A motor vehicle record will be pulled through the background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Currently enrolled in the Masters of the Environment Program at the University of Colorado Boulder.
  • Professional experience collaborating with multiple partners to implement projects.
  • Strong communication, community engagement, and marketing skills.
  • Strong computer skills including preparation of written materials, developing presentations, and operating Microsoft software platforms such as Office, Excel, Word and others.
  • Creative problem solver.
  • Experience supporting municipal sustainability projects (or related fields) including community engagement and education.
  • Familiarity with government sustainability initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Support event logistics and planning including the Town’s Arbor & Earth Day annual event, spring Clean Up Day, Town Fair, weekly Farmer’s Markets, and others.
  • Support current Sustainability Division programming including rebate programs, zero waste efforts and internal and external education and outreach.
  • Depending on intern interest, other focus areas are possible and may be assigned as needed.
