About The Position

The Village of Elk Grove is seeking a Sustainability and Communications Intern to assist with the implementation of the Village’s Sustainability Action Plan, as well as support overall communications efforts for the Village Manager’s Office. This internship is an opportunity to learn about sustainability at the local level and about local administration as a profession. The Sustainability and Communications Intern will work under the supervision of the Senior Management Analyst in the Village Manager’s Office.

Requirements

  • Working toward an undergraduate degree in environmental science, sustainability, public administration, or related field.
  • Strong research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional setting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Must be able to lift, carry or otherwise move up to thirty (30) pounds regularly.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Illinois Driver's License with a safe driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Leadership experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead recycling contamination cart tagging pilot program, which will include data collection, analysis, and reporting on findings.
  • Prepare and publish educational materials such as graphics, social media posts, posters, newsletter articles, etc. to promote proper recycling and other sustainable actions.
  • Develop a sustainability webpage to centralize information and resources for the public.
  • Coordinate applications and ensure eligibility for various designation programs such as SolSmart, Monarch Watch, etc.
  • Assist with implementation of other Sustainability Action Plan items.
  • Assist with weekly and monthly Village publications under the direction of the Senior Management Analyst.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform administrative and project support tasks as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.

  • Summer Seasonal employees will accrue one (1) hour of paid leave for every forty (40) hours worked.
