Teaching Fellows at the Blanton Museum of Art at The University of Texas at Austin work with a team of educators to coordinate and facilitate the museum’s PK-12 and family programs. Teaching Fellows prepare lesson plans and teaching materials, teach in the galleries, and maintain communication with participating schoolteachers. Teaching Fellows may also participate in and assist with docent training sessions, professional development workshops for classroom teachers, development and implementation of programs for family audiences, and gallery teaching with University audiences. Teaching Fellows are also expected to participate in occasional professional development seminars for Blanton Fellows as they occur. Graduate students in the arts and humanities, education, or related disciplines currently enrolled full-time at the University of Texas at Austin may apply for this position. Requirements

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, multitask, and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good problem solver with ability to make quick and sound decisions
  • Enrolled as a graduate student in good standing at the University of Texas at Austin
  • Approval of the graduate, thesis, or dissertation advisor
  • Must be registered for at least 9 credit hours during both the fall 2026 and spring 2027 semesters
  • Must maintain at least a 3.0 graduate GPA

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching PK-12 students and bilingual Spanish skills are highly desirable

Responsibilities

  • Design and facilitate gallery lessons for groups of PK-12 students visiting the Blanton Museum of Art
  • Take an active role in program evaluation, conducting gallery observations and analyzing findings
  • Proactively connect Fellow’s research agenda or discipline to the Blanton’s educational initiatives to accomplish an interdisciplinary project during the fellowship
  • Research and write PK-12 curriculum for gallery and classroom use, as needed
  • Work as support staff for teacher professional development events and programs
  • Provide occasional support for family materials and programs
  • Provide occasional support in teaching University audiences as assigned by the Senior Museum Educator for University Audiences
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Museum Educator for Docents, Families, and Schools
