About The Position

The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Safety & Site Support Division seeks a Surveyor. Under the direction of the Field Party Chief, the Surveyor will assist in field data collection for the completion of various maps, such as topographical/ property line, damage & acquisition, completion surveys, and plan & profile maps for Infrastructure and Public Buildings construction projects; acts as Party Chief, as needed. Additional responsibilities include assisting with the drafting of field sketches, level notes, and various documents pertaining to the maintenance of the survey equipment within an assigned vehicle. Please note: All candidates must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States (U.S.). Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in surveying, surveying engineering, surveying engineering technology or in similar surveying-related majors, and two years of full-time satisfactory land surveying experience; or
  • An associate degree from an accredited college or university in the surveying-related majors listed in "1" above, and four years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in "1" above; or
  • A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization and six years of full time satisfactory experience as described in "1" above; and
  • A motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
  • In addition to meeting the "Qualification Requirements" for Assignment Level I - A above, to be assigned to Assignment Level I - B individuals must have at least one additional year of experience, for a minimum of three years of full-time satisfactory experience as described under Qualification Requirement "1" above.
  • In addition to meeting the "Qualification Requirements" for Assignment Level I - A above, to be assigned to Assignment Level II, individuals must have two additional years of experience for a minimum of four years of full-time satisfactory experience as described under Qualification Requirement "1" above.
  • In addition to meeting the "Qualification Requirements" for Assignment Level I - A above, to be assigned to Assignment Level III, individuals must have three additional years of experience for a minimum of five years of full-time satisfactory experience as described under Qualification Requirement "1" above and must meet the "License Requirements" described below.
  • Registration as a New York State Land Surveyor is required for appointment to Assignment Level III.
  • To be assigned to officially sign off on land surveying work, a Surveyor - Assignment Level II must be a registered New York State Land Surveyor.
