About The Position

Surveyor IIworks as part of a team of surveying technicians and professionals working on mapping, construction, monitoring, and boundary/right-of-way projects for various City Bureaus. A Surveyor II performs survey research; resolves right-of-way and boundary lines; prepares legal descriptions and exhibit maps; prepares and files records of surveys with the County; processes survey field data; analyzes/adjusts survey control networks; analyzes/adjusts construction/emergency monitoring projects; creates design/topographic base maps; and provides computations for survey field crews during construction. About the division: The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) Survey Section has 24 employees and provides essential surveying, mapping, construction staking and monitoring services for various City Bureaus on street, sidewalk, sewer, water and parks improvement projects. The section is responsible for providing design/topographic base mapping to Bureaus using their preferred CAD formats; resolving public right-of-way lines, preparing descriptions and exhibit maps, filing records of surveys with the County Surveyor's Office; and performing construction staking to help ensure public improvement projects are built correctly. In addition, the section provides monitoring services during construction and supports the ADA curb ramp program work.

Requirements

  • Experienceperforming survey research, compiling record survey data, collecting and/or analyzing field data, and resolving right-of-way/boundary lines.
  • Skillin the use of surveying hardware and software related to all aspects of surveying. Namely, survey GPS receivers, total stations, controllers/data collectors, and adjustment, analysis, and mapping software.
  • Abilityto read and interpret construction plans as well as prepare construction staking files for survey field crews using provided design hardcopy plans and accompanying computer (CAD) files.
  • Knowledgeof Oregon Revised Statutes pertaining to the preparation and filing of Records of Surveys and the preservation of record monuments. Namely, the requirements as outlined in Oregon Revised Statutes 209.250, 209.150 & 209.155.
  • Abilityto organize projects; respond to changing project conditions; and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • A current State of Oregon Professional Land Surveyor's License
  • A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

  • Analyzes field service data and records survey information to resolve right-of-way/boundary lines
