Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary. The Survey Technician position performs a variety of land survey work related to the collection of survey data and the preparation of surveys including the following: Operates a work vehicle to transport survey tools to and from the survey job site; assists in locating and reconnaissance of survey control points and property corners to establish a baseline for the survey; accurately sets up survey equipment and Maintenance of Traffic devices required for the survey; locates  field conditions and improvements per survey work order; operates  a Total Station and electronic data collector to digitally measure and record angles and distances, and calculate precise coordinates of surveyed points; reads survey level and accurately records readings in field book; conducts other related tasks as necessary to complete the survey. General Description Works as support personnel on a field crew. Works under close to general supervision according to set procedures, but determines how or when to complete tasks.

Requirements

  • Requires one (1) year technical work in surveying or closely related experience.
  • A valid Florida Class "E" Driver's License for the duration of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree or higher in engineering/technical related course work
  • Completion of engineering/technical related college level course work comprised of 9 or more credit hours
  • National Society of Professional Surveyors Certified Survey Technician Level 1 or higher
  • Florida Department of Education Apprenticeship, Survey Assistant, Instrument Person certification
  • FAA Part 107 Certificate (Drone Pilot License)
  • FDOT MOT certification
  • First Aid/CPR certification/Defensive driving certification
  • At least one (1) year of experience using electronic data collection equipment
  • At least one (1) year of experience working with GPS/GNSS equipment
  • At least one (1)  year of experience working with Digital Levels/LIDAR/drones
  • At least one (1)  year of experience working with Carlson/Spectra data collection software
  • At least one (1)  year of experience surveying roadways/performing as-builts/construction layout

Responsibilities

  • Runs data collector and total station
  • Records field notes in book and runs level
  • Drives a truck to and from the job site
  • Helps set up any signs and equipment needed for the job
  • Helps and assists in anything that needs to be done at the job site
  • Picks up all equipment at the end of the day
  • Shoots all control points and property corners
  • Sets up instruments to establish a baseline for the job
  • Shoots everything that the worker order states
  • Finds control points such as property corners
  • Obtains information from party chief on what the office wants on each job
  • Executes each task
  • Performs related work as assigned
