About The Position

Dewberry is currently seeking responsible, highly motivated, and detail oriented individuals to join our Gainesville, VA office as a Survery Intern for Summer 2026. An Intern Surveyor must be able to work in a team environment as a member of a survey crew assisting in the performance of boundary, ALTA, topographic, right-of way acquisition, transmission line, transportation, land development and construction surveys utilizing the latest equipment and surveying technology. A housing bonus might be available for candidates that meet eligibility criteria. Program Information Summer Intern Program During the summer intern program, interns gain hands-on project experience, develop technical skills, and put their classroom knowledge into action. Our interns are assigned meaningful work and are given the opportunity to work on projects similar to what they would be engaging with as a full-time employee. Our interns get the opportunity to participate in a series of workshops and events, including: Networking opportunities to meet other interns, staff, and senior leaders across the business. Learning about our services, projects, and clients. Professional development workshops, including a career planning workshop and a DiSC assessment to learn more about themselves and how to work effectively with others. Summer-long group project where interns work alongside firm leaders to address issues that will impact our future strategy.

Requirements

  • Pursuing an Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Surveying or Civil Engineering, GIS, or Planning
  • Must have good Mathematical skills
  • Must have basic computer skills
  • Must have good communication skills
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to pass a driving record check
  • Must be physically able to work outdoors and on construction sites under all weather conditions; able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to work overtime as required
  • Must be willing and able to travel for extended periods
  • At this time, Dewberry will not sponsor a new applicant for work authorization.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous internship experience is a plus
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Assist the field supervisor with all aspects of the daily crew workload
  • Work in a safe manner and obey all safety regulations
  • Ensure safekeeping of equipment
  • Ensure that vehicles are supplied and kept in an orderly fashion ready for duty
