About The Position

This position involves operating various survey instruments and directing the activities of the survey crew when the survey crew chief is absent. The technician is responsible for interpreting construction plans, performing computations related to construction layout and staking, and researching completed project plans and legal descriptions while maintaining project records. The role also includes performing manual labor such as cutting brush, carrying stakes, rebar, and other heavy items, and stacking rods. Maintaining equipment and vehicles used by the surveying crew is also a duty. A fundamental understanding of uniform traffic control devices and procedures for short-term road closures and/or lane reductions is required. Duties are typically completed using computer software programs. The individual must perform duties in a safe, professional, and courteous manner to promote a positive image of the Road Commission for Oakland County. Regular and predictable onsite job attendance is an essential function, requiring a daily schedule that supports RCOC hours of operation.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent with knowledge in math sufficient to perform described duties.
  • A minimum of twelve (12) months of survey experience related to duties described above.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Michigan Driver’s License.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
