The Survey Instrument Technician operates various survey instruments and directs survey crew activities in the absence of the survey crew chief. This role involves interpreting construction plans, performing computations for construction layout and staking, and researching completed project plans and legal descriptions while maintaining project records. The technician is also responsible for manual labor tasks such as cutting brush for lines, carrying stakes, rebar, other heavy items, and stacking rods. Maintenance of equipment and vehicles used by the surveying crew is also a duty. A fundamental understanding of uniform traffic control devices and procedures for short-term road closures and/or lane reductions is required. Duties are normally completed utilizing computer software programs. The position requires performing duties in a safe, professional, and courteous manner to promote a positive image of the Road Commission for Oakland County. Regular and predictable onsite job attendance is an essential function, requiring a daily schedule that supports RCOC hours of operation.
