About The Position

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Survey Instrument Operator to join our surveying team. In this role, you'll support a wide range of public and private sector projects by performing construction stakeout, topographic, boundary, and ALTA surveys. You'll work closely with the Survey Party Chief and utilize modern equipment to collect, verify, and record precise measurements that form the foundation for design and construction.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience operating survey instruments or related field experience, preferred.
  • Working knowledge of land and construction survey methods and procedures.
  • Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot survey instruments.
  • Proficiency in performing algebraic, geometric, and trigonometric calculations.
  • Strong attention to detail and effective communication skills.
  • Physically capable of walking over rough terrain and standing for extended periods (up to 12 hours on occasion).
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years survey instrument operation or related experience involving the accurate and precise measurement of land areas, boundaries and topographical features using optical electronic measuring devices.

Responsibilities

  • Perform construction stakeout, preliminary topographic, boundary, ALTA, and other types of surveys.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of surveying instruments to measure and verify elevations, angles, and distances.
  • Perform mathematical calculations to establish and locate reference points, property corners, and control points for line and grade staking.
  • Read and interpret maps, plats, blueprints, and project specifications.
  • Clean, calibrate, and adjust survey instruments to ensure accuracy.
  • Assist and occasionally oversee field survey operations in the absence of the Survey Party Chief.
