Requirements

  • Highschool diploma or GED, including or supplemented by course work in engineering, field surveying and/or Mathematics.
  • Minimum of 5 years of field survey experience as an instrument person.
  • Ability to prepare work and observation reports and make surveying computations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and outstanding attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of mathematics, including algebra, geometry and trigonometry.
  • Current/valid State Driver's License with demonstrated safe driving practices required.

Responsibilities

  • Act as chief of a survey crew and supervise all work in the field.
  • Perform the more difficult survey measurement tasks using total station, GPS and other electronic survey equipment.
  • Make decisions on all field problems, consulting with office staff and supervisor as needed.
  • Take field notes and prepare maps and sketches from survey data.
  • Read and interpret plans and blueprints.
  • Make necessary mathematical computations.
  • Operate and supervise the use of all survey equipment including: GPS receivers, theodolite instrument, levels, electronic distance meter, electronic total station, electronic data collector, laser level, Philadelphia and linker rods and level.
  • Check all work preformed by field survey crew.
  • Train and instruct crew members on the proper use and care of survey equipment.
  • Frequently drive to project/client sites to complete tasks or attend meetings.
  • Consult with various city, county and private utilities and construction foremen.
