About The Position

Fairview has an immediate opening for a Surgical Technologist for the Operating Room at our M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank location in Minneapolis, MN. As a Surgical Technologist, you'll assist in surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, arranging and passing instruments to surgeons, and ensuring a sterile environment under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. You'll play a crucial role in supporting the surgical team and maintaining the safety and efficiency of the operating room. Our Surg techs work as a part of a strong team and their cases include, but are not limited to, general, dental, ear, nose, and throat, endoscopy, vascular, thoracic, open heart, orthopedics, neurology, bariatrics, solid organ transplant, gynecologic, colo-rectal, urology, plastics, and Da Vinci robotics. Schedule: This position will be working 0.8 FTE (64 hours every two weeks). The shift length will be 8 hours, primarily day shift, with occasional evening/night shifts. This position will also work a weekend rotation of approximately one weekend per month. This role offers a $6000 New Hire Sign On Bonus and a generous relocation bonus up to $5000. About our OR at UMMC East Bank: The East Bank Campus is a teaching hospital and has 24 newly renovated Operating Rooms. Our Operating Room is performing an average of 60 cases per day. We provide innovative surgical suites, including a hybrid suite and intraoperative MRI suites, for adult patients needing surgical intervention. Requirements

Complete one of the following by hire date: Military Surgical Assistant; OR LPN (licensed in MN) Surgical Assistant; OR Surgical Technologist training
Basic Life Support (BLS) through Health Care Providers (or ability to obtain by hire date)
Knowledge of physical, psychosocial, and cognitive developmental needs of population served.
Knowledge of age-appropriate outcomes and interventions.

Nice To Haves

Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program
AST certification or certification eligible at time of hire
1 to 3 years surgical tech experience
Demonstrate the ability to work under stress in a variety of situations.
Ability to work well under a team environment.

Responsibilities

Supplying appropriate instruments, suture, and specialty items.
Maintaining aseptic technique during all sterile procedures.
Ensuring accurate identification and handling of specimens.
Counting all required sponges, sharps, and instruments.
Assuring availability and accurate functioning of supplies and equipment.
Modifying clinical interventions based on population served.
Nurturing a culture of improvement, efficiency, and innovative thinking.
Anticipating the surgeon's needs.
Following appropriate action in emergency situations.
