Mass Eye & Ear (MEE) is offering a sign-on bonus for new and experienced Surgical Technologists! We are offering a $10,000 sign-on bonus for new hires who accept a full-time offer. We are currently hiring for our Boston main campus (243 Charles Street) – shifts to include full-time/36hrs weekly – rotating 12hr shifts, 7:00am-7:30pm/8:00am-8:30pm (hours may vary based on department need). Mass. Eye and Ear in Boston is a Harvard teaching hospital dedicated to eye (ophthalmology) and ear, nose, throat, head and neck (ENT) care and research. Under the general direction of the Nurse Director in the eye/ophthalmology department, and the guidance of the Circulating registered nurse, the Certified Surgical Technologist is a member of the surgical team responsible for providing intraoperative care to the surgical patient. The CST is responsible for instrumental care and safety of the patients. Included within this assignment is the responsibility for ensuring effective communication between members of the surgical team. Our team encourages you to come onsite for a shadowing experience and meet one-on-one with our dedicated Surgical Technologist staff and Registered Nurses. Ophthalmology has several specialties, including oculoplastic, glaucoma and retina surgery, cornea transplants, cataract and strabismus surgery. Our patient ages range from pediatric to adult and geriatric. There is a wide range of technology used in our surgical suites that are leading innovations in ophthalmology surgery excellence. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Experience as a Surgical Technologist I or in a similar role 0-1 year required
  • Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - Data Conversion - Various Issuers preferred
  • Certified Surgical Technologist [CST] - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred
  • Dental Assistant [State License] - Generic - HR Only preferred
  • Medical Technician [New Hampshire License] - New Hampshire Board of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy preferred
  • Knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and sterile techniques.
  • Familiarity with surgical equipment and technology used in the operating room.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle stressful situations during surgeries.
  • Understanding of infection control protocols and patient safety measures.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year experience as Surgical Technologist in a similar setting 1-2 years preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the operating room for surgical procedures.
  • Set up sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment required for the surgery.
  • Transport patients to the operating room, help with positioning on the surgical table, and ensure their safety and comfort during the procedure.
  • Pass instruments, supplies, and equipment to the surgical team during procedures.
  • Follow proper sterilization techniques to ensure the cleanliness and sterility of surgical instruments and supplies.
  • Maintain accurate and complete documentation of surgical procedures, including counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments used.
  • Collaborate effectively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, and other members of the surgical team.
  • Assist in preparing the surgical site by applying sterile drapes and solutions.
  • Secure and manage surgical drains and catheters as directed by the surgeon.
