JOB LOCATION Duke GI-Endoscopy of Raleigh - 3480 Wake Forest Rd Occasional requirement to float to Duke GI-Endoscopy of Brier Creek - 10207 Cerny Street JOB SUMMARY We are seeking a Surgical Technologist to perform a variety of specialized technical and supportive patient care activities to assist medical professional personnel in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program or maintain an accredited Surgical Technologist certification (NCCT or NBSTSA). Or, provides evidence of the successful completion of an appropriate training program for Surgical Technology in the United States Military.
  • Level I- Entry level position for new graduates of Surgical Technology program or Surgical Technologists with 0 to 18 months experience.
  • Level II- Requires 6 to 12 months of full-time equivalent Surgical Technology or relevant military experience.
  • BLS required.

Responsibilities

  • Determine, prepare and set up medical supplies and equipment for diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.
  • Explain procedures to patient, allay their fear and elicit cooperation.
  • Prepare patients for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to include obtaining specimens, attaching vital sign equipment, and positioning the patient.
  • Assist physician and nursing personnel during diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures to include, handling instruments and equipment, calling out equipment readings, and handling specimens while maintaining infection control standards.
  • Manually clean endoscopes and then perform the proper process to complete high level disinfection of these scopes.
  • Distribute supplies as needed and maintain inventory of supplies.
  • Assist nurse with transporting the patient into the procedure room and to recovery after the procedure.
  • Obtain family members from the waiting room once patient is in recovery, assist patients to restroom when needed and obtain refreshments for patients.
  • Clean and dress stretchers in preparation for the next patient.
  • Clean procedure rooms, including procedural tables, countertops, floor mats and wall suction systems.
