Assists GI Endoscopy Services Unit with the coordination of the daily patient endoscopy schedule with occasional guidance from the charge nurse, physician, or staff nurse. Facilitates patient care by assisting physicians/nursing staff before, during and after endoscopy procedures by providing the instruments and supplies required by the proceduralist according to established plan for patient care with occasional guidance. The GI Technician is able to perform competently most of the cases in a given service/shift. Cleans, disinfects and sterilizes endoscopy instruments for all areas. . Vanderbilt Health is seeking a GI/Endoscopy Technician at One Hundred Oaks! Position Highlights Assists providers in their procedures by making sure the equipment is available, room turnover and correct supplies are at bedside, and supply inventory in the procedural suite is maintained. A ssist during the procedure by helping obtain biopsies, retrieving unexpected equipment needs, and helping with patient care such as assisting in an emergency. Will be cross trained on infection prevention and prep of the scope before reprocessing. Will be cross trained on cleaning, complete reprocessing care, and storage of endoscopes. Outpatient environment. Hours are Monday - Friday either 7:30am - 4:00pm or 7:00am - 3:30pm. Late stay 5-7 times/month if needed. No nights, weekends, holidays or call.   • Facilitates patient care, by assisting the proceduralist before, during and after endoscopy procedures.
  • Plans, sets up, performs and cleans up the assigned endoscopy procedure.
  • Maintains the work environment in a safe, clean, orderly manner.
  • Performs, documents and monitors all quality control tools.
  • Receives and inventories departmental supplies, instrumentation and equipment.
  • Prepares instrumentation and equipment according to recommended procedures and techniques in preparation for high-level disinfection and sterilization to support all perioperative areas and clinics.
  • Operates all departmental equipment safely and effectively.
  • Scans instrumentation and assembles, according to prescribed procedures and techniques.
  • Provides technical support and assists in selecting instruments and equipment for endoscopy procedures for all perioperative areas.
  • Equipment Maintenance (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate the ability to maintain equipment, products, or systems in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Assures that parts inventory is sufficient.
  • Sterilization Preparation (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate sterilization preparation in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Generally works under the direction of others while accomplishing assignments.
  • Inventory Management (Fundamental Awareness): Has limited experience, training, direct exposure, or past experience working with Inventory Management. Understands Inventory Management concepts and principles. Familiar with Inventory Management tools, processes, procedures and policies.
  • Surgical Equipment Knowledge (Novice): Knowledge of the specific equipment and its performance criteria, capabilities and limitations. Able to use the equipment to accomplish basic tasks associated with the specific devices. May conduct remedial maintenance and preventive maintenance.
  • Procedures Knowledge (Fundamental Awareness): Has limited experience, training, direct exposure, or past experience working with procedures knowledge.
  • Departmental Policies & Procedures (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate knowledge of departmental policies and procedures in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Is attentive to existing departmental policies and procedures, and may recommend improvements to existing departmental policies and procedures within the work area.
