About The Position

Based at Baystate Medical Center (BMC) in Springfield, MA—a 716-bed, Magnet-recognized, academic medical center and the only Level I Trauma Center in Western Massachusetts —this role offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, technologically advanced surgical environment where excellence is the standard. Our surgical technologists work across a broad range of specialties, including: Trauma and Emergency Surgery Robotics and Minimally Invasive Surgery Cardiovascular and Thoracic Orthopedics and Joint Replacement Pediatric Surgery (including Shriners) General and Colorectal Surgery Transplants (Kidney) ENT, Dental, Urology, and Plastics Obstetrics, Labor & Delivery, and Vascular Access Baystate is committed to developing new surgical technologists through hands-on training, mentorship, and career advancement opportunities. As a Surgical Technologist at Baystate Health, you will be an essential member of the operating room team, working under the direction of the RN Clinical Operations Coordinator, Unit Manager, and Service Leads.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent training
  • AST Certification
  • Current BLS (American Heart Association)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience (or 1 year at Baystate)
  • Minimum 4 years of experience (including 1 year at Baystate)
  • Certification required for those without prior surgical experience before July 1, 2013

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining the integrity of the sterile field and ensuring adherence to aseptic technique
  • Preparing instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgical procedures
  • Anticipating the needs of the surgeon and responding effectively in real time
  • Monitoring patient condition and procedure flow to support safety and efficiency
  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary care team to ensure high-quality outcomes
