About The Position

Maintains responsibility for the preparation of the surgical suite, intraoperative handling of instruments, maintenance of the sterile field, and evaluation of changing conditions throughout surgical procedures. This position requires knowledge of a wide range of surgical procedures and the ability to implement hospital policies and practices related to surgery. Works under the supervision of the surgeon and in collaboration with the circulating Registered Nurse to ensure a safe operating environment, proper equipment function, and optimal patient outcomes. Participates in surgical call rotation to provide 24-hour coverage for emergency and trauma cases.

Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent experience in Surgical Technology
  • BLS for the Healthcare Provider by 60 days after hire
  • Ability to function effectively in high-pressure environments
  • Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills

Responsibilities

  • Maintains responsibility for the preparation of the surgical suite, intraoperative handling of instruments, maintenance of the sterile field, and evaluation of changing conditions throughout surgical procedures
  • Participates in surgical call rotation to provide 24-hour coverage for emergency and trauma cases
  • Provides assistance during surgical procedures by anticipating surgeon needs and maintaining sterile technique
  • Maintains a sterile and safe surgical environment throughout procedures
  • Performs surgical counts in accordance with hospital policy to ensure patient safety
  • Prepares operating rooms with required instruments, equipment, and supplies, ensuring sterility and proper function
  • Sets up, tests, and operates surgical equipment, including robotic systems and specialized instruments
  • Collaborates with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff to promote efficient case flow
  • Supports unit operations through cleaning, restocking, and room turnover in compliance with infection prevention standards
  • Completes assigned tasks such as inventory management and stocking of supplies
  • Participates in on-call coverage for nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Promotes patient safety by adhering to hospital policies, infection prevention standards, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Maintains sterile technique and demonstrates knowledge of aseptic practices
  • Ensures proper functioning and safe use of surgical equipment
  • Participates in continuing education and competency validation
  • Assists in surgical procedures under the supervision of a surgeon and in collaboration with the Registered Nurse
  • Anticipates the needs of the surgeon to facilitate efficient and safe procedures
  • Demonstrates proper use of surgical instruments, equipment, and techniques
  • Adapts to changing conditions during procedures to maintain optimal patient outcomes
  • Supports the operation of the surgical unit through cleaning, stocking, and organizing assigned areas
  • Ensures operating rooms are properly prepared and turned over between cases
  • Assists with departmental tasks and compliance with safety and regulatory standards
  • Cleans, inspects, and ensures proper functioning of surgical instruments
  • Prepares instruments for sterilization according to established protocols
  • Maintains knowledge of instrumentation across multiple specialties
  • Assembles case carts with appropriate instruments, supplies, and equipment for scheduled procedures
  • Ensures timely and accurate preparation based on surgical requirements
  • Demonstrates proficiency across multiple surgical specialties, including: Plastic Surgery, Podiatry, General Surgery, Gynecology, Otolaryngology (ENT), Orthopedics, Urology, Neurosurgery, Bariatric Surgery, Robotics, Trauma
