About The Position

This position is for a Part-Time Surgical Technologist at Holland Hospital, working day shifts (2-10 hours, either Tues/Wed or Wed/Thurs). The role involves preparing the surgical suite, handling instruments intraoperatively, maintaining the sterile field, and evaluating changing conditions during surgical procedures. The Surgical Technologist must have knowledge of a wide range of surgical procedures and implement hospital policies related to surgery. They work under the supervision of a surgeon and in collaboration with a circulating Registered Nurse to ensure a safe operating environment, proper equipment function, and optimal patient outcomes. The role also includes participation in a surgical call rotation for 24-hour emergency and trauma coverage, including weeknights, weekends, and holidays. Requirements

Graduate of accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent experience in Surgical Technology required.
BLS for the Healthcare Provider by 60 days after hire required.
Ability to function effectively in high-pressure environments.
Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills required.

Previous operating room experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Maintain responsibility for the preparation of the surgical suite, intraoperative handling of instruments, maintenance of the sterile field, and evaluation of changing conditions throughout surgical procedures.
Implement hospital policies and practices related to surgery.
Work under the supervision of the surgeon and in collaboration with the circulating Registered Nurse to ensure a safe operating environment, proper equipment function, and optimal patient outcomes.
Participate in surgical call rotation to provide 24-hour coverage for emergency and trauma cases, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Provide assistance during surgical procedures by anticipating surgeon needs and maintaining sterile technique.
Maintain a sterile and safe surgical environment throughout procedures.
Perform surgical counts in accordance with hospital policy to ensure patient safety.
Prepare operating rooms with required instruments, equipment, and supplies, ensuring sterility and proper function.
Set up, test, and operate surgical equipment, including robotic systems and specialized instruments.
Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff to promote efficient case flow.
Support unit operations through cleaning, restocking, organizing assigned areas, and room turnover in compliance with infection prevention standards.
Complete assigned tasks such as inventory management and stocking of supplies.
Promote patient safety by adhering to hospital policies, infection prevention standards, and quality improvement initiatives.
Maintain sterile technique and demonstrate knowledge of aseptic practices.
Ensure proper functioning and safe use of surgical equipment.
Participate in continuing education and competency validation.
Demonstrate proper use of surgical instruments, equipment, and techniques, adapting to changing conditions during procedures.
Clean, inspect, and ensure proper functioning of surgical instruments.
Prepare instruments for sterilization according to established protocols.
Maintain knowledge of instrumentation across multiple specialties.
Assemble case carts with appropriate instruments, supplies, and equipment for scheduled procedures, ensuring timely and accurate preparation.
Demonstrate proficiency across multiple surgical specialties, including Plastic Surgery, Podiatry, General Surgery, Gynecology, Otolaryngology (ENT), Orthopedics, Urology, Neurosurgery, Bariatric Surgery, Robotics, and Trauma.
