About The Position

SUMMARY: This position is filled by a Surgical Technologist who, as a result of on the job training and clinical experience in surgical technology, possesses the knowledge and technical skills necessary to assist in operations, under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, or other surgical personnel. May help set up operating room, prepare and transport patients for surgery, adjust lights and equipment, pass instruments and other supplies to surgeons and surgeon's assistants, hold retractors, cut sutures, and help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments. Responsible and accountable for direct patient care for assigned patients in the perioperative unit. Must be proficient in a wide variety of high level surgical technologist skills. Responsible for adhering to all standards of perioperative care and promoting a team effort among co-workers. Responsible and accountable to know, own and energize the vision, mission, values and standards of the hospital.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of Baxter Health's surgical technologist training program or 1 year experience as a surgical technologist.
  • BLS required

  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, to solve problems and make decisions.
  • Ability to stand and walk, bend, squat, and twist up to or exceeding 8 to12 hours during shift(s).
  • Occasionally requires lifting of 50 pounds or more of equipment with proper body mechanics.
  • Occasionally lifts patients with assist 125 pounds or more with proper body mechanics.
  • Spends eight hours or more in front of computer, monitor or similar screen utilizing keyboard and/or mouse.
  • Must be able to respond quickly in emergency situations of CPR and obtaining equipment.
  • Must be able to handle critical and highly stressful situations with efficiency and composure.
  • Has a keen sense of hearing and keen visual acuity to respond to critical changing patient situations from actual observations and/or equipment alarms.
  • May be subject to inside environmental conditions, hazards (including electrical currents and exposure to high heat and chemicals) and infectious diseases.
  • May have to function around prisoners or mental patients.
