About The Position

POSITION PURPOSE A Surgical Technologist First Assist Certified Lead is a Certified Surgical Technologist First Assistant or Certified Surgical First Assistant. The Surgical Technologist First Assist Certified Lead works under the supervision of a surgeon and registered nurse to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Surgical Technologist First Assist Certified Lead possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic procedures. The Surgical Technologist First Assist Certified Lead is responsible for fulfilling the surgical specialty lead duties which include communication of service line needs with surgeon, vendor reps, manager, coordinator, and staff. Provides staff support and training, updates preference cards, and maintains supply inventory for their assigned specialty.

Requirements

• Has graduated from an accredited school in a Surgical Technologist (ST) program or an accredited school in a Surgical First Assistant program.
• Two years’ experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist or Certified Surgical First Assistant.
• Current BLS and/or CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross or the ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
• Certification in The National Board of Surgical Technology and/or Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA). Employees hired into position as of January 1, 2016 will be required to obtain certification within six months of hire.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language.

Responsibilities

• Performs the technical and physical functions and skills related to the job performance of a Certified Surgical Technologist First Assistant or Certified Surgical First Assistant.
• Multifaceted communicator under a variety of emotional situations.
• Cleaning and restocking sterile core areas and Operating Rooms.
• Updates Surgical Preference Cards.
• Communicates service line needs with surgeon, vendor reps, manager, coordinator, and staff.
• Provides staff support and training.
• Maintains proper inventory of supplies and equipment.
• Coordinator of a spcialty serivce.
