About The Position

The Surgical Technician-Certified plays a critical role in supporting surgical teams by preparing operating rooms and ensuring all necessary instruments and equipment are sterile and ready for use. This position is essential for maintaining a safe and efficient surgical environment, directly impacting patient outcomes and surgical success. The technician collaborates closely with surgeons, nurses, and anesthesiologists to anticipate the needs of the surgical team during procedures. They are responsible for adhering to strict protocols to prevent infection and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations. Ultimately, this role contributes to the seamless execution of surgical operations and the overall quality of patient care. They are also responsible for direct patient care in the Maternity department assisting nurses with care of patients and assisting with deliveries.

Requirements

  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) from an accredited program.
  • Completion of a formal surgical technology training program.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of sterile techniques and surgical instrumentation.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a hospital or surgical center environment.
  • Advanced certifications such as Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA).
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills developed through clinical experience.
  • Additional training in specialized surgical areas such as orthopedics or cardiovascular surgery.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare operating rooms by setting up surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile drapes according to the specific procedure requirements.
  • Assist surgical teams during operations by passing instruments and supplies, anticipating surgeon needs, and maintaining a sterile field.
  • Ensure all surgical instruments and equipment are properly sterilized, inspected, and maintained before and after procedures.
  • Monitor and manage surgical supplies inventory to ensure availability and proper storage.
  • Adhere to infection control protocols and safety standards to maintain a sterile and safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to communicate effectively and support patient care throughout surgical procedures.
  • Document surgical procedures and maintain accurate records of instrument usage and sterilization processes.
