This is your chance to enter a high-demand field with incredible growth opportunities. No prior surgical experience required—we’ll train you! Surgical Technologists handle the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during surgical procedures. These team members ensure quality patient care during the operative procedures and are vigilant in the maintenance of the sterile field. The Surgical Technology Apprentice will complete 6 weeks of didactic (classroom) training in preparation for clinical training. Upon successful completion of the didactic training, they will gain hands-on experience while working closely with a skilled Surgical team in a clinical environment. After successful completion of the program, the apprentice will be eligible for a Surgical Technologist (uncertified) role. Job Description: • 6 month program that includes classroom curriculum and clinical training in the surgical setting. • Progress will be monitored and clinical training may be adjusted based on student progress • Clinical support from educators and highly-trained surgical tech preceptors. • Must be willing to commit to rigorous on-the-job training. • Be able to work all scheduled shifts (40 hours a week) for the duration of training. • Must maintain good attendance during the program. • Must earn a passing grade of 75% on all quizzes, tests, and clinical practicums. Team members must commit to working for the organization within their scope of practice or qualifications based on the following criteria: • Participants will be required to maintain employment with UofL Health for the duration of the program. • Upon completion of the program, the employee agrees to work in a full-time role as Surgical Tech for two (2) years at UofL Health

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association.
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
