About The Position

The Surgical Technician (ST) provides a high level of care by assisting with age-specific surgical procedures, practices principles of surgical asepsis, identifies breaks in the sterile field and ensures that appropriate action is taken. This role anticipates the needs of the surgical team and promotes the efficient flow of the operative procedure. The Surgical Technician serves as a resource for their specialty area and functions effectively in multiple areas. They are expected to follow policies, protocols, techniques, and guidelines, and utilize interpersonal skills to maximize excellence in customer service, safe patient care, and professionalism. The position contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population, and performs other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Completion of a surgical technician course
  • No experience required
  • Demonstrates basic competencies for surgical technician duties
  • Ability to apply theoretical concepts to surgical technician duties and practice
  • Continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in surgical and procedural technician duties
  • Basic knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation
  • Exhibits professional behavior and a cooperative attitude at all times
  • Works calmly and responds courteously when under pressure
  • Able to speak, read and write legibly in English with professional quality
  • Able to use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, electronic medical record, electronic event reporting program)
  • Able to troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment pertinent to position
  • Able to perform technical patient care and supportive patient care activities
  • Able to read preference cards accurately
  • Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others
  • Able to be assertive and consistent in following policies
