About The Position

Patient Care - Personally accountable for providing patient and employee safety at all times. Utilizes safe practices and procedures in surgical patient care. Identifies and escalates potential patient and employee safety issues. Reviews surgery plan and appropriately prepares for procedure. Demonstrates understanding of technical skill required to provide care to patients and families and the ability to effectively perform the skills. Demonstrates the ability to make appropriate decisions, prioritize planned and unplanned events. Procedure preparation is focused on cost effective provision of supplies and equipment to facilitate patient care with positive outcomes. Utilizes the surgical plan as the resource for opening or holding on necessary implants/supplies. Knowledge of resources to utilize for questions. Participates in orientation and training programs to attain competency in complex cases and procedures. Basic working knowledge of technology, computers, electrical safety, and robotic equipment as applicable for procedure type. Applies knowledge of anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and pharmacology / Specialty of whole organ transplantation, vascular system/structures for optimum surgical patient care. Leadership & Development - Engages in safety culture with active participation in regulatory requirements and patient safety huddles. Complies with safety practices. Demonstrates openness to coaching and mentoring from others. Supports leadership in compliance efforts to meet and sustain the regulatory compliance efforts of the department and hospital. Active engagement in shared governance activities, unit recycling opportunities, and participation with unit process improvement activities. Ensure individual requirements are fulfilled in a timely basis. Collaboration - Uses shared decision making; Engages in multidisciplinary team process, actively participating in effective problem solving, collegial learning and pursuit of best practice. Knowledge patient situational awareness, and of escalation plan. Deals with conflicts directly, constructively and tactfully. Utilizes resources and escalates when necessary. Supports an atmosphere of cooperation, respect and trust within the team. Collaborates and is responsive to day-to-day needs of co-workers. Compliance - Patient Services Staff- Sustain a working understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Support leadership in Compliance efforts to meet and sustain the regulatory compliance efforts of the department and hospital. Be mindful and judicious in monitoring safety and departmental policies and procedures. Ensure all individual certifications and Safety College requirements are fulfilled in a timely basis. Work with department managers to identify and share safety best practices. Be mindful of CCHMCs processes and compliance with CMS standards and freely communicate safety and compliance concerns to leadership team members. Exhibits advocacy and moral agency - Works on behalf of patient and family; assesses personal values; aware of ethical conflicts/issues that may surface in clinical setting; makes ethical/moral decisions based on rules; represents patient when patient cannot represent self; aware of patients' rights. Assesses cultural inclusion. Recognizes the potential impact of culture on the patient/family experience, and incorporates culturally various concepts into patient care. Escalates for assistance in difficult situations. Entry level position for new surgical technologist grads. Currently in orientation process in the surgical technologist role.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in surgical technology from an Allied Health Education Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP) OR Associate degree in surgical technology from a program accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education School (ABHES) OR Formal military training in surgical technology from the Army, Navy, or Air Force (68D Surgical Technology Training [Army], Hospital Corpsman [Navy], Surgical Services Specialist [Air Force])
  • Certification within one year. Maintains certification by participating in continuing education activities.
