About The Position

Aiken Regional Medical Centers, located in Aiken, South Carolina, is a 273-bed acute care facility providing top quality and safe healthcare to the residents of Aiken and surrounding communities since 1917. Aiken Regional Medical Centers has been ranked a top hospital in South Carolina by the American Heart Association for its treatment of heart attack, heart failure and Stroke, and most recently, coronary artery disease. Additionally, Aiken Regional provides comprehensive healthcare services such as behavioral health (Aurora Pavilion Behavioral Health), emergency medical care (main hospital and ER at Sweetwater), orthopedic surgeries, maternity, rehabilitation services (Hitchcock Rehabilitation Services), imaging, and wound care. POSITION SUMMARY Provides twenty-four-hour responsibility for personnel and operations of the Surgical Services Departments - PAT, OPS, OR, PACU, ECT and Endoscopy. The Clinical Nurse Manager directs, supervises and evaluates the performance of the nursing staff, contributes to the development of fully qualified and continuously improving staff and supports work redesign and quality improvement within the department. The Clinical Nurse Manager plans and administers the annual budget in collaboration with the Director. The Clinical Nurse Manager integrates evidence-based nursing practice utilizing the nursing process.

Requirements

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited or NLN approved RN program. Bachelor’s required or must be actively pursuing courses leading to a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience: Previous supervisory experience required. Minimum of three years of Surgery nursing experience required. Knowledge of human resource management, program development, fiscal management skills, and familiarity with regulatory and accrediting agency standards needed.
  • License or Registration Requirements: Current South Carolina nursing license. Current BLS and ACLS certification.
  • Training: CPI training by 90 days of hire.
  • Travel Requirements: Minimal

  • Demonstrates knowledge and application of regulatory agency standards.
  • Monitors and controls productive and non-productive time.
  • Controls overtime and supply costs.
  • Identifies capital needs and justification.
  • Schedules staff according to budgeted guidelines and provides core staffing daily.
  • Assures that orientation, annual competencies, and continuing education for all unit staff are completed.
  • Observes nursing activities on all shifts.
  • Provides counseling in a timely manner and initiates progressive discipline.
  • Completes annual performance reviews.
  • Holds regularly scheduled staff meetings.
  • Performs interactive daily unit rounds focusing on customer satisfaction (patients, physicians, associates, and visitors).
  • Investigates patient complaints and follows through on incident reports and corrective measures.
  • Monitors charting for accuracy and completeness. Utilizes chart audits to track progress.
  • Identifies performance improvement opportunities and utilizes PDSA to develop corrective action plan and evaluates progress through resolution.
  • Works with other departments to coordinate patient care.
  • Facilitates unit cleanliness and order.
  • Serves as back-up support to the charge nurse, particularly when the charge nurse on days is required to take patient assignment.
  • Maintains open communications with other clinical and ancillary departments to better serve the unit’s needs.
  • Other duties as assigned
