About The Position

In accordance with the Mission and Guiding Behaviors; the Surgical Services Assistant, under the direction of a Registered Nurse, will provide patient care tasks, in an atmosphere sensitive to each person’s physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs. Functions within the standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines of the Organization.

Requirements

  • Education: High school graduate or equivalency required.
  • Licensure / Certification: Effective Communication Skills Demonstrates effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication, and math computation skills
  • BLS healthcare provider training required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs specific patient care tasks as assigned under the direction of a Registered Nurse and follows approved policies, procedures, guidelines and standards.
  • Assists with room turnover.
  • Maintains OR supply inventory and linen.
  • Assists with intra-operative exposure as assigned (MCNA only).
  • Assists with intra-operative positioning as assigned (MCE / MCSA / MCNA).
  • Transports patients, specimens and x-rays to the appropriate department.
  • Obtains and cleans equipment as requested; returns equipment to its proper location and helps to move equipment needed in the OR.
  • Keeps equipment tidy and in order when not in use, and the hallways clear and neat.
  • Maintains direct communication with each operating room and provides supplies needed, as directed by the circulating nurse.
  • Performs end-of-day and terminal cleaning of OR rooms as directed.
  • Cleans sub-sterile rooms, scrub sinks, hallways, and other operative areas as directed.
