About The Position

The Surgical Clinical Assistant (SCA) provides assistance to the Physician and Physician's Assistant with daily administrative and clinical duties. This role involves a variety of tasks including assisting with post-op suture and staple removal, post-op wound care, pre-admissions testing orders, and responding to patient calls and messages.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED minimum education requirement
  • Must be a Certified Medical Assistant with one+ years of clinical experience
  • Professional certification must be active and valid
  • Knowledge of medical office procedures and medical terminology
  • Computer skills including, but not limited to, MS Office Suite

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with post-op suture and staple removal
  • Assisting with post-op wound care
  • Assisting with pre-admissions testing orders
  • Responding to patient calls and messages
  • Greeting patients in the waiting room and escorting them to the exam room
  • Directing patients to surgery scheduling and/or front desk for checkout
  • Maintaining order, cleanliness, and inventory in the exam room
  • Preparing exam room for patients to enter
  • Cleaning and autoclaving instruments
  • Providing and scanning proper paperwork to the chart for Physician's review
  • Recording vitals as per Physician's request
  • Preparing injections for the Physician
  • Pulling up x-rays, MRI's, CT's, and various studies pertaining to the patient's exam
  • Assisting patient with clothing when necessary
  • Disposing of bio hazardous waste and sharps according to OSHA regulation
  • Replacing sharps containers when existing containers are full
  • Answering telephones in patient areas
  • Providing voicemail coverage for Physician
  • Requesting reports for various facilities for Physicians
  • Emptying and restocking laundry
  • Scanning appointment tracking to identify when patients are ready to be seen by the Physician
  • Directing Physician in patient appointment order
  • Reviewing Physician schedules for chart preparation including ensuring operative reports, dictations, and studies are present in the chart
  • Completing pre-certifications for MRI's and other Physician orders as necessary
  • Sending Visco Injection authorization request to supplement pre-certification representative
  • Scanning information into patient record (including all Physician orders, prescriptions, etc. on the date of service)
  • Covering other areas in the office when not assigned to a Physician
  • Attending required meetings and participating on committees as requested
  • Exemplifying the desired culture and philosophies of the organization
