About The Position

"Navitas Healthcare, LLC" is seeking a skilled Surgical Assistant to support surgeons during operative procedures, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical outcomes. The ideal candidate will work closely with the surgical team to assist with intraoperative tasks, maintain a sterile field, and contribute to optimal patient care in a fast-paced operating room environment.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Surgical Assisting or completion of an accredited Surgical Assisting program
  • Minimum 2+ years of Surgical Assistant experience required
  • Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and surgical principles
  • Excellent manual dexterity and ability to stand for extended periods
  • Strong clinical judgment and ability to perform under pressure
  • BLS (American Heart Association)

Nice To Haves

  • 4+ years of overall surgical experience with specialty exposure
  • Experience in robotic and orthopedic surgical procedures
  • Completion of a CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Technology program
  • Foreign Medical Graduates with relevant U.S. surgical assisting experience (case-by-case consideration)
  • NSAA Certification
  • CFA (Certified First Assistant – AST)
  • RNFA (Registered Nurse First Assistant – NASC)

Responsibilities

  • Assist surgeons during operative procedures to ensure optimal surgical outcomes
  • Position patients to provide proper surgical exposure
  • Maintain visualization of the operative site using retractors, suctioning, irrigation, and tissue handling
  • Support hemostasis using approved surgical techniques
  • Perform wound closure, including running, interrupted, and subcuticular sutures
  • Close skin using sutures, staples, or other approved methods
  • Assist with postoperative local anesthetic administration under surgeon direction
  • Apply and manage wound dressings and immobilization devices
  • Assist in securing drains and other surgical equipment
  • Support harvesting of veins, arteries, tendons, bone, or skin as required
  • Maintain strict sterile technique and proper instrument handling
  • Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and operating room personnel
  • Ensure accurate documentation and compliance with hospital policies and safety standards
  • Stay current with advancements in surgical techniques and technologies
