We have an immediate opening for a Surgical Assistant to join our team at Fertility Centers of Illinois to support our Chicago, Illinois office at 361 W. Chestnut. Schedule: Per Diem; Schedule varies as needed. 4 to 8 shifts per month. Compensation: $22 to $25 per hour (commensurate with experience). This role provides the opportunity to grow within a nationally respected organization while remaining closely connected to the patients and teams you support every day.

Requirements

  • Certification from the American Board of Surgical Assistants; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to provide direction to others that is clear, concise, and promotes efficiency
  • Ability to communicate well with patients, families, medical staff, co-workers, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • Six months to one-year related experience and/or training
  • At least one year med/surg experienced preferred

Responsibilities

  • Implement technical components of patient care under the supervision of a licensed LIP according to established policies, procedures, and protocols
  • Participate in all aspects of the clinical process to support the delivery of patient care and completion of required activities
  • Maintain responsibility for patient safety at all times
  • Communicate patients' operative status to appropriate team members
  • Prepare and ensure availability of instruments, supplies, and equipment for assigned surgical procedures
  • Participate in preoperative assessment and surgical planning
  • Recognize safety hazards and initiate appropriate preventative and corrective actions
  • Provide surgical exposure through the appropriate use of instruments, retractors, suctioning, and sponging techniques
  • Handle and dissect tissues in collaboration with the surgeon
  • Clamp blood vessels, coagulate bleeding points, ligate vessels, and perform related procedures in collaboration with the surgeon
  • Perform suturing of muscle, fascia, subcutaneous tissue, and skin in collaboration with the surgeon
  • Place surgical drains as indicated
  • Assist with cannulation and decannulation procedures as needed
  • Serve as an educator, mentor, consultant, and resource to colleagues and other healthcare professionals
  • Act as a patient advocate while maintaining privacy and confidentiality of all appropriate information
