About The Position

The Surgical Physician Assistant (PA) provides patient care in collaboration with surgeons/physicians. Conducts surgical history/physical exams, orders and interprets diagnostic/lab tests and develops plan of care. Writes prescriptions, controlled substances per Delineation of Privileges. First assists in surgery. Performs surgical procedures in the operating room under the direct supervision of the surgeon. Performs procedures in the clinic under direct or indirect supervision. The PA has synergistic relationship with the surgeon and highly technical skills increases patient safety and positive surgical outcomes. Enables the continuity of care by managing patients in the pre, intra and post operative settings. Performs inpatient rounding, consultations, wound care and bedside procedures. In the outpatient setting, manages clinics, clinic procedures, facilitates family and patient education, and participates in grand rounds. Works directly with staff, administration, patients and families to ensure quality care across the continuum as an expert in surgical practice areas. Performs on-call coverage requiring high-level decision making on weekdays, weeknights, and weekends inclusive of surgery. Estimated salary range for this position is $126,148.63 - $163,993.22 / year depending on experience.

Requirements

  • Masters Degree
  • Valid Florida APRN License or Valid Florida PA License
  • Nurse Practitioner National certification or NCCPA Certification
  • DEA License
  • BLS Certification
  • RNFA Registered Nurse First Assist Certification (for APRNs)
  • Must be compliant with state of Florida requirements for CEUs and licensure
  • Must obtain medical staff credentialing and privileges as needed for practice location
  • 3 years of relevant nursing experience required (for APRNs)
  • 1 year of experience desired (for PAs)
  • If APRN requires hospital inpatient medical staff privileges and does not have an acute care certification, refer to BHSF Policy 701 titled Educational and training requirements to be credentialed to work in an acute care setting for Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
