About The Position

The Surgical Technician acts as a primary scrub person who handles instruments, surgical counts, supplies and equipment needed for surgical/diagnostic procedures. Anticipates surgeon needs and provides prompt and efficient care for the patient through optimal aseptic scrub techniques. Has basic understanding of procedures being performed and maintains the integrity of the sterile field. Non-scrubbed functions are: room readiness, preparation for surgical procedure with supplies/equipment pulled based on preference cards and patient needs, transporting of patients and equipment operation and assisting with circulating duties under the immediate supervision of a Registered Nurse. Assists in ordering/stocking of supplies, prepares instruments/supplies for sterilization and in maintaining a safe clean environment. Will be responsible to assist in pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

Requirements

  • High School graduate.
  • CPR certification.
  • Two (2) years previous experience in direct-care hospital-oriented field.
  • The position requires manual skill and dexterity, emotional stability, coordination, corrected vision, hearing the use of two hands, the use of two feet, long periods of standing are required.
  • Agility/ability to bend over, lift, reach, pull are also required.
  • Must have endurance for long hours.
  • Exerting 50-100 pounds of force occasionally and or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for medium work.
  • Required to have a base-line eye exam by the ophthalmologist prior to working with laser, and to be repeated upon termination of employment.
  • The position requires the successful completion of a medical examination after offer of hire has been made.
  • The position requires the employee to be free of all unlawful substances and alcohol.
  • The position requires the employee to continuously function in a productive, professional manner.
  • Must be able to work to department and hospital needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of a Surgical Technology school or on-the-job training.
  • Participation in obtaining certification in surgical technology and membership into the Surgical Technology Association.
  • Two (2) years’ operating room/perioperative experience or five (5) Med/Surg nursing assisting.
