About The Position

The Surgery Supervisor will engage in the direct supervision and development of technical staff and day-to-day operations for the Surgery group, actively assisting as required. The Surgery Supervisor will be responsible for departmental scheduling and cross-departmental collaboration. Responsible for implementing policies, processes, and procedures that affect employees and group workflow. Responsible for communicating expectations, business needs, and opportunities for improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or equivalent in animal or life science-related discipline with a minimum of 3 years of surgery-related experience required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of management experience preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office core applications and the ability to learn and use additional applications.
  • Knowledge of GLPs and other federal regulations relating to preclinical research.
  • Excellent understanding of study design and protocols.
  • Excellent understanding of laboratory operations and data collection.

Nice To Haves

  • LATG and/or SRA/SRT certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of the Surgery Department including, but not limited to, communicating expectations and business needs to direct reports.
  • Oversee performance, development, training needs, and accomplishments for all direct reports.
  • In collaboration with Human Resources hire staff as needed and resolve all Employee Relations issues.
  • Identify and/or provide training to staff.
  • Recognize, initiate, and lead process improvements.
  • Develop and maintain departmental systems and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Assist in the development and communication of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Serve as the liaison between staff, other departments, and management to communicate expectations and business needs.
  • Contribute to scheduling, planning and data review.
  • Track surgery-related metrics.
  • Responsible for Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), SOP, protocol, and regulatory compliance of all direct reports.
  • Assist in maintaining surgical equipment compliance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
