About The Position

Sante Health System is looking for a full-time Surgery Scheduler & Authorization Coordinator to join our medical office, Advanced Gastroenterology & Hepatology Associates in Fresno, CA. This position is responsible for making and scheduling surgery appointments for patients in an efficient and timely manner. Additional responsibilities also include obtaining, researching and processing authorization requests along with communicating authorization approvals and denials. This position also requires data entry of authorizations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED equivalent required.
  • Minimum of one year medical front office experience.
  • Candidates should have exceptional people and communication skills, be highly skilled in multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment, a commitment to achieving a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, and a no-task-too-small approach to the work.
  • Knowledge of medical office procedures including surgery procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of interrelationship of surgery department with laboratory and radiology.
  • Knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation to type patient information.
  • Skill in operating a computer, photocopy machine, fax and other office equipment.
  • Skill in answering the telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner.
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, physicians, coworkers and the public.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with medical terminology, various insurance products and requirements desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Book, coordinate and reschedule patients' surgical and office appointments. Relay necessary messages to staff.
  • Obtain, research and process authorizations.
  • Greet patients in a prompt, pleasant and helpful manner. Verify necessary information including insurance coverage, eligibility and benefits for patients.
  • Enter demographic information into the system.
  • Prepare logs/reports as necessary.
  • Maintain and update current information on physician's surgery schedules.
  • Function as office liaison to hospitals on behalf of the patients, including coordination of admitting arrangements and any hospital tests or equipment needed.
  • Answer telephone, screen calls, take messages and provide information.
  • Answer questions regarding patient surgical appointments and testing.
  • Communicate questions or concerns for prompt resolution.
  • Update patient chart with any applicable information as necessary.
  • Assist other office personnel in the performance of their duties as assigned and as workload permits.
  • Function as relief for other personnel in office as appropriate and to facilitate coworker's taking time out of the office.
  • Work in a cooperative and professional manner with physician and coworkers.
  • Attend required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
  • Enhance professional growth and development through in-service meetings and education programs.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
