About The Position

The Surgery Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations of the Surgical Services departments to ensure safe, high-quality patient care. Duties include: Leadership & Staff Management: Supervise nursing and support staff, manage scheduling, and ensure compliance with policies and standards. Clinical Oversight: Monitor patient care processes in surgical units, ensuring adherence to evidence-based practices and regulatory requirements. Resource Management: Coordinate staffing, equipment, and supplies to maintain efficient workflow and cost-effective operations. Quality & Safety: Implement quality improvement initiatives, monitor outcomes, and maintain accreditation standards. Collaboration: Work closely with physicians, anesthesia providers, and other departments to optimize patient experience and operational performance. Education & Development: Support staff education, competency validation, and professional growth.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN required; MSN preferred).
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Wisconsin (or applicable state).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • STABLE certification (or ability to obtain within designated timeframe).
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of clinical experience in Surgical Services.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills.
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards (Joint Commission, CMS).
  • Ability to manage budgets, staffing, and scheduling.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in electronic health records and hospital systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous leadership or management experience in a hospital or acute care setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership: Direct and manage daily operations of Surgical Services, ensuring efficient workflow and compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
  • Staff Supervision: Recruit, train, schedule, and evaluate nursing and support staff; foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
  • Clinical Oversight: Monitor patient care delivery in surgical units, ensuring adherence to evidence-based practices and quality standards.
  • Resource & Budget Management: Oversee allocation of staff, equipment, and supplies; manage departmental budgets and cost-control initiatives.
  • Quality & Safety Initiatives: Implement and monitor quality improvement programs, infection control measures, and patient safety protocols.
  • Interdepartmental Collaboration: Coordinate with physicians, anesthesia providers, and other departments to optimize patient outcomes and operational performance.
  • Education & Compliance: Ensure staff maintain required certifications and competencies; support ongoing education and professional development.
  • Performance Monitoring: Track key performance indicators (KPIs), patient satisfaction scores, and regulatory compliance metrics; develop action plans for improvement.
