About The Position

As a Surgery Schedule Coordinator, you will play a critical role in the efficient and smooth operation of a healthcare facility's surgical department. Your primary responsibility will be to coordinate and manage the scheduling of surgical procedures, ensuring optimal utilization of resources, and facilitating effective communication between medical staff, patients, and other relevant departments. Your organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work well under pressure will be essential in this role.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in surgical scheduling, operating room coordination, or a related role.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with a diverse range of stakeholders, including medical professionals, patients, and administrative staff.
  • Proficiency in using scheduling software, electronic medical record systems, and other relevant healthcare technology.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, surgical procedures, and operating room protocols.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in maintaining records and documentation.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work collaboratively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage the surgical schedule by assigning surgical slots, ensuring efficient utilization of operating rooms, and optimizing surgeon and staff availability.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to schedule surgeries.
  • Communicate with patients, providing necessary instructions and information regarding pre-operative preparations, surgery timing, and post-o. appointments.
  • Work closely with the pre-admission team to ensure accurate and complete patient information, including medical history and insurance details.
  • Liaise with the surgical team to ensure that all required resources, such as surgical instruments, implants are authorized.
  • Monitor and track surgical procedures in real-time, ensuring adherence to scheduled start times, minimizing delays, and accommodating urgent or emergency cases.
  • Facilitate communication between surgical teams, nurses, and other departments to ensure smooth transitions between surgical cases and appropriate patient care.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic records of surgical schedules, patient information, and surgical outcomes.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of process improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the surgical scheduling process.
